(More customer reviews)For $200 this coffee grinder sucks.It's missing nice/easy to add features, like rubber stoppers on the bottom!!Both hands are busy, one holding the espresso handle and one operating the doser and the machine slides all over the counter.Also the doser never worked on my machine.It never dispensed the correct amount of coffee...and the coffee that came out of the dispenser went everywhere.Plus the dispenser handle was less than smooth to pull.I hate this machine.

(More customer reviews)When I want a treat, I brew one of the Gevalia Cappuccinos in my Tassimo machine. Each package comes with 8 Gevalia espresso discs, and 8 creamers. The creamers are liquid and made from 2% milk. To make a cappuccino, you use an espresso disc first, brewing the small serving of espresso, then you use a creamer disc. The barcode on the disc tells the Tassimo machine to froth the cream, and what comes out is a lovely frothed cream that mixes in with the espresso, creating a delicious cappuccino.

The flavor is smooth, the texture quite good. Each cup has a head of foamy cream on top like you'd get in a coffee shop. I use these when I want to treat myself to something more than just a regular cup of coffee. They're a bit more expensive than the regular coffees, but when you want to treat yourself, it's worth it.

(More customer reviews)I've tried several of the various coffees for Tassimo machines; Gevalia, Henry's, Starbucks, Maxwell House, Carte Noir. The Gevalia Signature Blend is my favorite. I wouldn't consider it a mild coffee, I think it's a bit closer to medium. It has a rich flavor that doesn't come across as being burnt or bitter (like some other coffees do), and is quite smooth. The discs control the temperature and size of the serving, and I find these discs to be quite good in those regards, making a hot cup of coffee that fills a mug to a comfortable level. I've owned my machine for over three years now, and these discs have consistently brewed an excellent cup of coffee. I heartily recommend them.

(More customer reviews)Doing research, I found that "crema" is the froth or foam that comes out of some espresso machines. Being thicker, espresso can create more foam or froth when it brews in commercial coffee shop machines, and this foam or froth (called "crema") is enjoyed for it's own qualities in Europe as it floats atop the espresso.

The Signature Crema Coffee t-discs from Gevalia creates a slightly smaller sized cup of coffee with a "head" on it. The Tassimo machines are capable of pumping air through the water, creating froth or foam. Creamer discs usually take advantage of this to make cappucino with frothed cream. The crema coffees, like this one, froth the brew, giving a good amount of foam. The roast is relatively smooth and a little stronger than the Signature Blend, and the serving size a little smaller. Most likely, it brews a little less coffee so as not to dilute the froth, and that gives it a slightly stronger flavor.

If you like coffee with a head or froth on it, these will yield good results. I keep a few on hand for novelty or a change of pace (or when I forget and run out of the regular coffee). Crema is a different type of coffee though as the air being pumped through the brew does alter it slightly. If you enjoy coffee with cream and sugar, you most likely will not enjoy this. If you enjoy black coffee, then chances are much better you'll appreciate this one.

(More customer reviews)This is the second version of this stirrer that I have owned.The previous black plastic version lasted several years with daily use.I anticipate that this newer design will do so as well.

This new metal cased stirrer feels a bit more substantial in the hand and the brushed aluminum case is a bit more secure in your grip than the original plastic case item was if you have wet hands.The stirring attachment at the end of the wand is updated from an "impeller" design to a coiled metal ring design.At first I was not happy that my new stirrer would be different in this way, but with the first use it proved to be a superior mixing apparatus.It mixes the beverage as throughly as the old style did, but does so without creating the whirlpool effect as quickly.Therefore, short bursts with the stirrer will completely mix your beverage without the tendency to overflow.Of course, if you stick it in there and turn it on uninterrupted, you will make a mess.Technology can do only so much to help you.

Batteries last well in this (it uses AA's) and the base seals well to keep moisture out.It's not perfect, but easily acceptable.

My only improvement wish for this item would be for an included wall mount of some sort that the user could hang the item on after use so that the wand could dry without moisture running down it and into the motor base (as happens when it is stood on it's base after use).Over time, that little bit of moisture each day causes enough corrosion of the motor contacts and switch contacts that the item will fail.Figure out how to store it upright and it should last forever.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to replace my Bunn pod brewer.I liked the Bunn, but after going through three in two years, I figured it was time to try another brand. The Grindmaster is somewhat of a commercial-grade product and hopefully it will last longer.

Grindmaster pros include:

- Quickly brews good-tasting and very hot coffee (adjustable)
- Works with every brand of pods we've tried
- Has a large water tank, and can be plumbed for automatic fillup
- Reasonably good looking, although a bit larger than others
- Lets you program the unit to exactly fill your favorite cup

On the negative side, about the only thing I've noticed is that the unit is a bit loud when running, and there's no way to turn off the (relatively bright) blue water level indicator lamp on the front of the unit.

I'd rate the overall quality as somewhat above the Bunn and other brands, but it's not necessarily in a completely different league.

(More customer reviews)We love this brewer. The best benefit is a fresh, just-brewed cup of coffee every time. The k-cups are more expensive than buying bulk coffee but we were throwing away partially brewed pots of coffee every day with our old brewer. Plus, the savings in time not having to clean the carafe and dump the filter of grounds and then cleaning that is well worth it. Also, you can purchase a reusable filter for it if you want to continue to use non-kcup coffee. Believe me, it is still WAY less expensive than what you pay in the popular coffee houses and the coffee is just as good, or better.

It won't accommodate a tall cup but it is simple to brew into a glass measuring cup and then pour that into your tall cup or travel mug.

Helpful tip: We did have a clogging problem at first. The manual doesn't tell you that there is a "top needle" that can get clogged. Just remove the gasket and take a straightened paper clip to unclog it. If you use your own coffee, use a coarser grind to avoid that problem. HOWEVER, we were leaving the k-cup closed up in there and the grounds were getting cold and stayed stuck in the needle. We found that if you remove the k-cup right after brewing, it doesn't get clogged EVER. Have not had it happen since we discovered that. By the way, Keurig's customer/technical service is absolutely top notch!They stand behind their product and more than make up for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

For those of you who are confused about the amount of water to pour in, we just take the cup we are brewing it in, fill it with water and pour it in. We never worry about seeing where the water level is.

(More customer reviews)I am very impressed with Starbucks' Latte Primo. I love drinking strong black coffee, and also enjoy coffee drinks. My favorite T-Discs for coffee are Starbucks Caffe Verona and Africa Kitamu. Prior to sampling the Starbucks Latte and Cappuccino, my choice was Gevalia Latte and Cappuccino T-Discs because I found their espresso better (stronger) than Maxwell House's. Those two brands share the same creamers and although they are certainly acceptable, they have a stronger cooked milk flavor compared to Starbuck's.

Starbucks espresso is a great improvement over the Gevalia, and its presence in the Latte is key to my five star rating for the drink. I also prefer the new creamer developed by Starbucks. The creamer does contain a small amount of sugar, and although the reason for its inclusion is unclear, I didn't find the sweetness noticeable. The latte creamer produces a luxurious quantity of creamy decadent foam.

I have attached a picture of the latte while in the process of brewing because sometimes marketing photos don't look like the result obtained in real life. The cup in the pictures holds 8 ounces filled to the brim. The latte has 80 calories, 4 grams of sugar and 5 grams of fat. For me there is no turning back. Once I finish the remaining Gevalia Latte and Cappuccino I have on hand, Starbucks will be the only brand I'll buy.

(More customer reviews)I am so happy that Amazon is now carrying the international coffee blends for Tassimo.This coffee is hands-down my favorite and only preference for the Tassimo machine.This is a very common blend of coffee, very similar in taste to Maxwell House but without the hangover effect I seem to get from Maxwell House.It is a Canadian Columbian blend coffee established in the late 1800s much like the beginnings of Maxwell House.It just seems to have a smoother taste and no after effect of a headache or upset stomach, like I tend to get with Maxwell House.I am drinking Maxwell House now because I simply am out of Nabob and was not ready to reorder, yet.At this great price, I am not hesitating to order-up!

Visitors to my house do enjoy Seattle's Best Henry's Blend and Starbucks Verona, if they prefer a stronger blend of coffee. Starbucks is the strongest and needs dilution for some, though.If you consider the Jacobs' discs, the Monarch is much like a demi-cup (small) of an Austrian chocolate-hint coffee.Kroenig is for those who know and prefer the german taste.The coffees and lattes from Jacob's are light tasting in my opinion.I prefer a capuccino from a very upscale machine rather than those from Tassimo, but the Gevalia brand does suffice for caps, lattes, and hazelnut flavor coffee.Jacobs' tends to be quite listless in taste.

For hot chocolate, the Milka german brand is good because it adds a creamer.While the Suchard is a non-creamy packaged hot chocolate sweetened with Splenda.They both suffice for out of the box style hot-chocolate.

Tassimo is a great "get-you-by" in the morning machine.It is decent, efficient, and reliable.If you like caps from machines like Miele orNepresso or if you like good beans in a morning press, you will be dissapointed with Tassimo.Tassimo is what it is, a good one-cupper and Nabob is a smooth daily coffee that is definitely my favorite.

(More customer reviews)For the two of us, drinking coffee at different times, a one-cup brewer - fresh coffee brewed in 2 minutes is just right. Finding a brewer that delivers small full flavored servings is quite another story; the Keurig mini plus seemed to have been the end of a long search, at last. Great-tasting and consistently flavored coffee with the single serving K-cup cartridge; brew strength adjustable to your liking by varying the amount of water (6, 8 or 10 oz) poured into the reservoir. PERFECT 5-star product, albeit not overly intuitive [ie, read the manual], but worth the few minutes setting it up properly.

Wonderful ... until day 20 when lifting the brew handle failed to empty the water reservoir into the boiler element: ie, NO coffee. Performed all the manual's suggestions, including cleaning the outlet valve with a paper clip, emptying the boiler, running vinegar through (which didn't work because the boiler could not fill), and even resetting the electronics.

Fortunately, customer service was both friendly and helpful; after verifying that above steps failed to correct the malfunction, they immediately FedEx'd a new (not refurbished) replacement with optional no-cost at-home pickup of the replaced unit to diagnose the defect.

Very pleased both with the fine cup of coffee, and with the swift painless problem resolution; very displeased that a hundred and thirty bucks household item lasted no more than 20 days (about thirty cups total).

(More customer reviews)I assume if you are reading this you already know what Tassimo is and all that and are just curious about this flavor.Well I can happily tell you it is really, really good.Packaged the same as all other milk coffee drinks you get the coffee pod and the milk pod.Here I believe the caramel flavoring is just integrated in with the espresso/coffee pod.
The flavor which I realize is not coming from real caramel is actually quite good.And when brewing you get a wonderful caramel smell.My wife likes these as much as the coffee she normally gets form Strabucks, and we can make it at home and save quite a bit of money.
So if you have yourself a tassimo and you like the caramel latte macchiato you gets at the coffee shop then I think you will be pleased with these.

(More customer reviews)I have tried all the available Starbuck's T-discs, and they are all excellent tasting, full bodied brews. The Maxwell House & the Gevalia are more suited to the person who likes a very mild cup of java, as they are much weaker & less bold.

I was somewhat skeptical when I opened the Seattle's Best Henry's Blend, as the T-discs were of the smaller, shallower type as the Maxwell House & the Gevalia are. I instantly surmised that the new T-disc I was about to try was of the weaker, milder variety because of it's shallow size. The Starbucks brews are (with the exception of the cappuccinos & lattes), deeper and more densely filled with ground coffee than the aforementioned brands, thus they are strong and robust. I was pleasantly surprised when I brewed my first cup of Henry's blend and experienced the fruity, nutty aroma I so crave! The fact that these new T-discs are packaged in the smaller sized pods did not mean a weak, watered down cup I expected. The taste was the second bonus, as the flavors are bold, but smooth; a better cup of coffee has never passed my lips! Very different than the Starbuck's blends, but just as pleasing and definitely as flavorful.

If anyone loves the taste and smell of Starbuck's House Blend, they would love this succulent array of coffee flavor possibly even more.Considering you get 16 T-discs per package versus 12 in the Starbuck's for about the same cost, the Seattle's Best is a bargain of the best kind!

(More customer reviews)We Louisianans like our coffee pretty brawny, and you just can't get good, strong brew from this machine. I brought the first one back, and traded for a different one (same model) because I thought it was defective. Ended up taking #2 back, too, for a refund.
While your typical brew-only machine might have 3-4 parts, this one (I think) has 7 or 8. After making the coffee, the entire grinding portion has to be disassembled and cleaned (bean cup with lid, blades, chute) - much of the actual ground beans are trapped here, and all these parts are thickly coated with wet, steamy bean sludge.
All would be forgiven if the coffee was delightful, but it is merely lackluster and uninspired.
Good idea, but not well executed.

(More customer reviews)We bought our Bunn Ultra 2 about 3 years ago for large parties, and in that setting it works great! Things to consider: it's really heavy! We purchased a stainless steel rolling cart from a restaurant supply and use/store the monster on it. The Bunn has a very nice feature where you can keep any leftover beverage on a "chill" setting instead of "Ice". This is great for times when you will be using it over a couple of days. The Chill setting will keep the beverage at a safe cold temperature then all you have to do is change the setting to ice and it will refreeze the drinks. Since it has a compressor it does make noise. Most people wouldn't even notice at a large noisy party, but if you are sensitive to background noises, it may bug you. It's really easy to dissemble and clean once you get the hang of it. The biggest challenge we found was to purchase the right drink mix. You can't just dump any drink mix in to the machine because it can potentially damage it. What ever mix you use MUST have a certain "Brix" value (google it).Our first purchase was from a company called Frozen Drink Madness. We ordered several different flavors but found them to be overly sweet. I usually add more alcohol to compensate but alcohol acts like an antifreeze, so you have to be careful. We found the best tasting mixes come from "The Margarita Man" which is a franchise. You can google it to see if there is a rep in your area. The strawberry margarita mix is especially good. You don't always have to make full batches either. I give it 5 stars because once you find the right mix, have a large party, it's a real crowd pleaser! If you are going to use it for smaller groups, be prepared to have a lot of left over drinks.
There are times when we feel like we spent too much on something we only use a couple of times a year, but when we fire it up at parties we are really glad we have it.

I don't typically like Earl Gray tea, but this one has a really nice flavor.I look forward to having it at the end of the day without having to brew a whole pot. It does have a taste (and I even added extra water), so I'm not sure what the other reviewers mean when they say it does not.My advice: try it for yourself.

The Vario is so new that I didn't find any meaningful reviews but I took a chance based on its specifications. I'm very satisfied with it. It looks good, it grinds extremely fast (at least compared to anything I have used before, 20 sec. for enough coffee for a 32 oz French press), there are lots of different grind settings (macro and micro giving lots of combinations), and there are no static problems to throw grounds over the kitchen worktop. The grind appears to be uniform as far as I can tell.

I use it for grinding coffee for a French press. I find setting it a little finer than filter gives the right results for my tastes -- I don't know whether that means its pre-settings are too coarse or whether I just prefer a rich, dirty cup of coffee (I think probably the latter as I'm a Greek/Turkish coffee fan as well as a fan of French press). I have tried it for Greek/Turkish coffee on its finest setting but it did not get it fine enough for that purpose -- that does not matter to me as I already have an Athena brass hand-mill. I use the Vario twice a day to make coffee for my French press and it works just great albeit I set it finer than the manufacturer's setting for French press.

(More customer reviews)Since I have only had the Virtuoso for three months I will not discuss the long-term quality.Because I use it primarily for press pot, drip and small espresso batches I was not looking to get a solid consumer grinder, like the more expensive Rancilio Rocky or Mazzer Mini.

Previously I have owned a Starbucks Barista (the Solis verson, not the newer Saeco Titan verson) and the Capresso Infinity 560 Black.The Barista had a long and happy life, and after performing the hack (see coffeegeek.com), made great coffee and pretty good espresso.The Capresso was excellent for drip & press coffee, but only adequate for espresso.I would happily recommend each of these for people that just want a pretty solid cup of Joe, and do not mind it being slightly heated in the process.The Capresso was still running solidly, so do not infer it died early (it cheerfully grinds my wife's flax seeds very well now), I just wanted something better for my espresso shots.

After briefly considering the Gaggia MDF I looked at the Virtuoso, mainly for three, important, reasons.

First I was very happy with my Solis/Starbucks grinder, it lasted for over 10 years of heavy use.The hack allowed it to make good espresso.Baratza has been involved with selling the Solis products, and are the designers of the Maestro and Maestro Plus grinder (yes, thats right they are THEIR machines, not Solis).After talking to a few of the locally operated coffee shops, invaluable advice, I was able to learn more about the company.

Second, many of the negative reviews were early in the introduction of the product.What I appreciated, and what the shop owners told me about, is the serious approach to resolving any issues the product has and updating the product itself.Each issue has been addressed, burr design, machine rpm, cleanliness, fineness settings, etc.Important to me was that the later reviews, specially by some of the talking heads, were far better than the earlier versions of the Virtuoso.

Third the current version of the product, it is an affordable ($200 in some cases slightly less) grinder with a professional burr, over 40 settings (it can be easily hacked to allow for finer or coarser setting- something I have not needed to do yet. That information is posted in the FAQ of the Baratza website), and lower rpm motor (very important if you do not wish to heat the ground beans, or use a heavy French Roast as I do).It is easy to clean with the supplied brush, but hand wash and rinse well, the washable parts.Absolutely do not wash the container in the dishwasher, unless you wish destroy the anti-static properties of the container, plus it isn't necessary.

After figuring out what settings work best for my three purposes, I am getting a coffee that is as good as I would get in even some of the better local establishments in Portland.My espresso is not quite as good, but then I do not have Mazzer's and a thousand dollar plus espresso machine.For my purposes the espresso is far better than I have made on my own in the past.

It may be only a perception, but it seems as though I am using fewer beans as I have in the past as well, important as coffee prices rise.This is a great grinder for its niche, one can get better, but you will have to pay more, and be seriously addicted to Barista quality espresso.

If you're even more serious about grinding espresso you may want to look at something like a Rancilio Rocky, $295 or Pasquini Moka Grinder @ $499

This can be considered high end for home use especially for a drip coffee maker. (that's what I use it for). It also can be considered a good upgrade if you want something better than a blade grinder or inexpensive burr grinder or a backup espresso grinder if you already have a serious espresso grinder. (This was my upgrade from a Braun burr grinder).
It's also not intended for commercial use, it won't hold up to that kind of constant use but I think it's a great grinder for all aspects of home/office use if you're looking for a heavy duty conical burr grinder.

I narrowed my choice to the Solis or the Capresso. They're nearly the same but the Solis was designed and assembled in the USA, the Capresso is made in China.

This is easy to dissasemble and clean. The plastic adjusting mechanisim that rotates and holds the grinder burr simply slips out and drops back in. It's not under any stress and isn't going to break unless it's put together wrong.

It's quiet, low static with less mess. There's going to be some mess, it's just a lot less than the high rpm, less expensive grinders.

It's smooth operating with enough weight to feel like an appliance and not a toy. It's all I need for my high-end drip and low-end espresso needs.

(More customer reviews)Yes, you'll flinch when you see the price tag!Right now this is the king of super automatics.My work hours are all over the place and many times there is just no time to devote to pulling the perfect espresso from a manual or semi machine.Add to that I drink cappuccino's or lattes 95% of the time.This machine was made for those who drink mostly cappuccino's or lattes and it couldn't be easier.Many long time aficionados on the coffeegeek.com forums will tell you that you cannot pull anything close to a "god shot" from a super automatic and they are correct.But what you get is pretty darn good especially if you love the taste of espresso but don't want to devote your life to making perfect shots every pull.The Z5 is the model of simplicity and produces consistent very good shots of espresso and excellent latte's & cappuccino's every time with little time.I had this machine programmed, up and going just 10 minutes out of the box.I am not an expert on pulling shots manually.Setting the knob to the hottest setting, strongest espresso and finest grind yielded a very tasty shot that was far better than any I have had at Starbuck's.I used Coffee Emergency espresso roast.The crema was good and the temperature excellent.I used a Capressa S9 a year ago and was not happy with the temperature of the shots coming out of the machine.They are much improved on the Z5. Back to cappuccino's...Fill the milk thermos with your choice of milk...set knob to cappuccino and hit the button.A gorgeous cappuccino was produced on the very first try.I didn't have to move the cup...it was all automatic!It took me ages to learn to make a decent cappuccino onsame thing manually.Again...much better than at Starbuck's and any of the local coffee houses. The Z5 has a timer that can be set to turn the machine on and off when you want it to. Settings for water level, brewing time, amount of heated milk and foam, can all be pre set or adjusted with a knob live as your beverage is being made.The unit is whisper silent even when grinding beans.It is a well built piece of equipment that is UL approved for both residential and commercial use.I couldn't be happier with it.Should you get this machine? what poor design! it is rounded with just a few little raised lines for gripping. nevertheless i was never able to get it open to use the dang thing. returned for a different model with a raised "bar shape" on the cap that you can actually grip to get it open. if you have even the slightest problem opening jars (and i have 100lb grip strength as measured by a PT), then pass on this item. if its this hard to open before its even turned on, imagine how difficult with steam pressure. if i could give it a zero, i would just because of the annoyance of having to return the thing.

I was initially happy with this tamper, but after a little bit over 3 months of use it broke apart as I was tampering coffee. An e-mail exchange with the retailer revealed that this is a know issue with this model of the tamper -- the tamper breaks if dropped. I have to agree that I probably dropped the tamper a couple of times during the time I used it because it rolls away so easily...

My expectation for any kitchen gadget/tool is that it should be sturdy and not breaking apart even if it felt from the counter. There are plenty of kitchen tools made of plastic that don't break so easily.

If you are not prepared to baby your espresso tamper, then do yourself a favor and get a more robust product.

(More customer reviews)If, like me, you love coffee, especially lattes and cappucinos, but have more taste than dollars, this is the espresso maker for you.
It's an inexpensive pump machine which really does deliver the goods: fast espresso and frothy milk.
After testing it out today, I feel fully caffinated for the first time since I moved to the Great Plains from the Northwest.
I used the bottom of the line Krups espresso maker back in the day, and then used an inexpensive Capresso for the last six years, until it finally died.
Shopping at my local housewares store, I was drawn to this one because of its attractive form factor, and the fact that it wouldn't overpower my small kitchen. I'm an artist and aesthetics are important to me and this machine has a nice clean design.
I was skeptical that an inexpensive pump machine could really deliver, but this one does. I love not having to wait to pull a second espresso.
And let's face it: Krups has the milk frothing thing down. Nobody makes a frothier frother than Krups.
I confess I thought that espresso pods were overpriced and entirely unnecessary. I'm glad that Krups included a sample of the Illy pods, because after using them, I'm hooked. Just 20 seconds, and you have a lovely espresso with a nice crema.
There's a lot to be said, especially in the morning, for no measuring or cleanup and there are sources for more affordable pods at amazon.com from Espressione and Terrafazione. I've ordered the Terrafazione ones, as I'm homesick for the Northwest, and I intend to try them both.
Some hints:
Do warm up the machine, as instructed. Then you'll have nice, HOT espresso.
The see through water window is almost impossible to see in my kitchen. Others have suggested putting a ping pong ball (!) or other plastic ball inside as a gauge. I think I'll just get in the habit of topping off the water level before I make coffee.
If you have a large milk steaming pitcher, as I do, I find it much easier to use the frother if I put the entire coffee maker on a wooden cutting board. This raises the frother another 3/4 of an inch or so, making it easier to get the pitcher underneath.
Be warned that there isn't a lot of clearance between the filter holder and the bottom of the machine, so you won't be able to use tall cups. I have some oversize but wide cups I like to use for lattes, and they just fit.
With this espresso maker, and a low tech French press, all my coffee desires are satisfied.

It's sturdier than I thought it would be. It's also heavier, so if you have delicate tall glasses, you might want to take care that the spoon doesn't make the glass tip over when it's empty. My tall glasses have heavy bottoms and are fairly sturdy, so that's not a problem for me.

At first glance, I thought this spoon was okay looking, interesting but not beautiful. But now that I've gotten used to it, I've come to realize how attractive it is. A tall glass of iced tea or coffee with this spoon in it looks like something that belongs in a fancy cookbook. My kids also think the twist is fun. Even my husband likes to play at twirling it in his fingers. Cute.

The spoon is somewhat flat, but not more so than other long spoons I've seen.

All in all, a very good buy for the money.

La Pavoni La Moka Burr Grinders Review

(More customer reviews)Cheap, grinds adequately.The moniker "La Moka" should've clued me in that this was a mediocre manufacturer's lame attempt to make a coffee grinder sound hip or trendy.

It grinds fairly well, but the two-piece plastic hopper for the grounds is awkward and tends to fall apart easily, spraying grounds all over the counter and the machine itself.

Also the dial used to select coarseness can be confusing.9 is for coarse, 1 is for fine, but there is a left arrow ( ) each pointing away from the number, so that if you move the dial all the way to the right, you think you're choosing FINE since the word fine is at the right, but in actuality you're choosing COARSE even though it's on the opposite side.The fine grind is pretty fine, but coarse really isn't, there doesn't seem to be much difference between coarse and fine with this grinder despite your selection.

I regret this purchase.

Pros:

Dripless.Unbelievable!No matter how fast you pour it won't spill.It makes it very easy to fill the resevior in the back with no mess (and we have limited counter space).

Cone filters - Prefer the taste over basket shaped ones.

User interface - Very intuitive!!!If you want to change the time, just press hour.So many others require you to hold down a combination of buttons, etc.This is the easiest system I have ever seen.

Material - Solid!Metal machine is very sturdy.Cons:

No variable heat - We thought this would be a minor inconvenience, but the pad keeps the coffee perfect for us so it is not an issue.

No variable flavor - Again, we thought it might be an issue, but this makes great deep rich coffee (adjust strength byquantity of grounds.)

Residual liquid in carafe - Yes, the design keeps about 1-2 tbsps of coffee/water after you pour everything out.We just hold it over the sink and turn it upside down.Very minor inconvenience.

Overall a great coffee machine!

You'll have to polish your barista skills (grind and Tamp)...practice with and regular cleaning of the Itaca will be rewarded with crema and flavor ..lazyness will keep you in line at starbucks feeding a foam addiction...

Do the math ...I dropped forty five CA on the Itaca and inside ofseven days had consumed enough large lattes (twenty one of them) to require I take out a small loan to feed this same espresso addiction @ starbucks (I'm hooked on espresso, not foam, but if YOU need foam ..use an egg whip on your separately heated milk ...you wussies :)

REAL men only need apply to operate the Itaca..(it s all analog baby)
it gets hot and burns the fingers, it can spit out pure crap if the shot is not tamped and ground properly (imagine that)and if you overheat it, bitterness is the reward..plus you have to clean it after every use AND it takes just a weee bit longer than making a cup of instant...

It s worth it all... for the flavor..it s really really good ..it s really addictive ...I may have to sue ...and I dont miss and or need the foam on my latte ...

(More customer reviews)I've been traveling to Europe for over 25 years and truly am a loverof Espresso coffee. Our family has owned an espresso machine for atleast the last 15 years. Out of all the machines that I've tried, I feel the machine that I currently own, The Multi-Pro 1-Group unit from Briel is the best I've ever tried. I first read about this in the New York Times February 25,1998 where Suzanne Hamlin talked about Espresso Artistry at Home. There she recommended this machine for it's consistently superb crema. It can use either ground coffee or the coffee pods, which are great. I paid over...for my machine so at...it's a real bargain. I rate this machine very high and would highly suggest purchasing it if you are a serious lover of espresso/cappuccino.
